KÁYÌNÉ Education & E WÁÁ JÓ! Where culture, movement and joy meet

Ẹ wáá jó - Come and dance.

A monthly programme for children aged 7–13 rooted in Afro dance, Yorùbá language and the belief that every child deserves to see themselves celebrated.

Where E WÁÁ JÓ! comes from

Every programme has a heartbeat. Ours comes from three generations of women who danced.

A grandmother who dancedwithout music

My grandmother would dance without music. My mum does the same — when she sees me, she dances. That is how our family welcomes people. That is how joy moves in our home.

When my grandmother passed, dancing became my way through grief. I found myself moving through the loss, and I realised: dance had always been how our family processed the things that were hardest to say.

It healed something in me. And I knew it could do the same for children.

From personal healing to collective joy

A year after she died, I held a tribute through dance. It was in that space — moving, remembering, celebrating — that E WÁÁ JÓ! was born.

The name means "Come and dance" in Yorùbá. It is an invitation. A welcome. A declaration that your body, your culture and your joy all belong in the room.

I created it as a tool for children to express themselves, build confidence, and connect with Yorùbá culture — through the most human language we have: movement.

"Dancing helped me through my grief. I realised it had always been how our family processed what was hardest to say. I wanted to give children that same gift."

About KÁYÌNÉ & Victoria

I founded KÁYÌNÉ Education because I wanted children of African and Nigerian heritage to see themselves reflected — in their learning environment, in their classrooms, in the world around them.

We live in a world where Nigerians and Nigerian culture carry an unfair weight of negative reputation. I wanted to do the opposite: to highlight and amplify our history, our present and our future. Not ignoring the tensions or complexities — but leading with celebration. I believe that when children meet their culture through joy first, they can hold the harder truths with confidence and pride.

KÁYÌNÉ works with children from 4 to 15 years old. We go into primary and secondary schools, run community programmes, and partner with local authorities and organisations across the North East. We deliver Yorùbá language and culture workshops, Nigerian history sessions, music and dance experiences, and bespoke cultural affirmation programmes.

I have spent several years working directly with children and young people in educational and community settings, designing and facilitating workshops that support cultural identity, confidence and representation among children who are often underrepresented in standard curricula. That work has shown me, over and over, how much it matters for a child to see themselves — really see themselves — in what they are being taught.

Representation

Children of African and Nigerian heritage deserve to see themselves reflected in their learning environments, not as a token — as a celebration.

The Celebration Method

We lead with joy. Children who first encounter their heritage through celebration are better equipped to engage with complexity and build lasting pride.

Education & Identity

From Nigerian history to Yorùbá language, we weave culture into learning — in schools, community spaces and monthly programmes like E WÁÁ JÓ!

Movement as Expression

Dance is one of the most powerful tools for emotional expression, wellbeing and cultural connection. We use it intentionally and joyfully.
