Child Protection & Safety
Our promise: The welfare of every child is our highest priority... above everything else.
Our Commitment to Every Child
KÁYÌNÉ Education runs the E WÁÁ JÓ! Afro Dance & Yorùbá Culture Programme for children aged 7 to 13 in Darlington. Because we operate mostly on a drop off basis (parents are always welcome to watch), children are in our full care and we take that responsibility seriously.
DBS Checked Facilitators
Every adult working with children holds an enhanced DBS check with children's barred list clearance before their first session.
Sign in and Sign out
Every child is registered on arrival and released only to a named, pre-registered adult at the end of the session.
Trained Staff
Our Designated Safeguarding Lead holds Level 3 safeguarding training and all facilitators complete regular refresher training.
Culturally Safe Space
We celebrate every child's identity. Our safeguarding approach is inclusive, anti-racist and culturally affirming.
Drop Off, Collection & Staying
We encourage parents and carers to drop off their children so that the session space stays focused and calm. We know that's not always possible, and we want to be clear about how we handle both situations.
A warm welcome at the entrance
If you prefer to stay or need to stay for any reason, you are welcome to wait in the entrance/reception area of the venue. We ask that parents and carers do not enter the session room itself once the programme has started, to avoid disrupting the children's focus and flow.
Drop-Off (encouraged)
Child signed in at the door by a named adult
Session runs in a focused, child-centred space
Children thrive with independence and peer connection
You're kept informed of how the session went at collection
A facilitator is available at the door for any quick questions
Staying (welcome if needed)
Parents/carers welcome in the entrance/reception area
Please do not enter the session room once it has started
A facilitator will come to you if there's any need
We appreciate your understanding in keeping the space calm
No judgement — do what's right for your child and family
Collection
Children will only be released to the adult named on their registration form. If someone different is collecting, please let us know in advance in writing. Children not collected within 30 minutes will trigger our Late Collection Procedure and we will contact you directly.
Photography & Images
We have made a deliberate decision to protect children's identities in all our public-facing content. This is a safeguarding choice we are proud of.
Our Photography Policy & What This Means for You
We no longer share images that show children's faces on our website, social media, or any promotional materials. This is a proactive safeguarding decision to protect every child in our programme.
No photos showing children's faces will be published anywhere without explicit written parental consent
Where photography is needed for our records, it is stored securely and not shared publicly
We are gradually removing existing images of children from our platforms. Thank you for your patience during this transition
Please do not photograph or film other people's children during sessions
If you see an image of your child you would like removed, contact us at info@kayineeducation.com and we will act within 5 working days
Photographing at sessions
Photography and filming during E WÁÁ JÓ! sessions is not permitted by attendees or parents/carers without prior written permission from KÁYÌNÉ Education. This protects all children in the room, not just your own.
Reporting a Concern
If you are worried about a child — whether at one of our sessions or elsewhere — please do not hesitate to speak up. No concern is too small.
How to raise a concern with us
Speak to any KÁYÌNÉ Education facilitator at the session, or contact us by email.
Your concern will be passed to our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) on the same day.
We will always take your concern seriously and act promptly.
You will not be penalised or judged for raising a concern in good faith.
If you're concerned about immediate risk
If you believe a child is in immediate danger, call 999 straight away. Do not wait to speak to us first.
For non-emergency concerns about a child's welfare, you can contact Durham County Council Children's Services directly.
